The Docker prefix belongs to another server
Each Docker name prefix belongs to one data directory. This ferryd uses a different data directory.
What you see
Error: Docker resources with prefix 'ferry' belong to another Ferry server (data dir /var/lib/ferry). Run this server with a different --name-prefix, stop the other server, or pass --take-over to adopt the resources (…)A second form of the message is found N Docker container(s) with prefix 'ferry' that this (empty) data dir … doesn't know.
Why it occurs
Each name prefix belongs to one data directory. The data directory of this server does not own ferry.
The two usual causes:
ferrydstarted from another folder with the default./ferry-data.- Two servers share one Docker daemon.
How to repair it
- Start
ferrydwith the data directory that owns the prefix. The message gives its path. - Or give this server its own
--name-prefix. See Multiple servers.
Do not use --take-over for this
The server that takes over removes the containers of the other server. Do not use --take-over while another server uses the prefix.
Use --take-over only for a data directory that lost its instance_id. A data directory that you moved keeps its instance_id. It starts with the same --name-prefix and needs no other option.
