When references resolve

Ferry resolves the references when a deploy starts containers. It saves the result with the deploy.

Who uses the saved environment

  • the reconciler, when it replaces a crashed instance
  • a scale up and a resume
  • cron runs and one-off jobs

If the target changes

When a datastore or a referenced service changes, the containers that run keep the old values. They keep them until the next deploy or restart.

To get the new values:

Terminal
ferry restart NAME

Service properties

A reference of the kind service gives the host, the port or a URL of a different service.

References in a build

A build also gets the resolved values. Ferry leaves out a reference that it cannot resolve yet.
