References in a build

A build also gets the resolved values. Ferry leaves out a reference that it cannot resolve yet.

The variables of a service also go to the , as secrets. The build gets the resolved values.

If a reference cannot resolve at the build

For example, the reference points at a service that has no deploy yet.

  • Ferry leaves the variable out of the build.
  • The tells you, as in the example above.
  • The container gets the variable later, when the reference resolves.

When references resolve

Ferry resolves the references when a deploy starts containers. It saves the result with the deploy.

Port references wait for the first deploy

A deploy that references the port of a service waits for the first deploy of that service.
